The Canadian province of will hold a referendum this October that will decide whether it stays with Canada or moves towards separation. Located in western Canada, this landlocked province is oil-rich, and the push for independence has been growing for years. A petition for separation garnered more than 300,000 signatures earlier this year, enough to trigger a formal referendum. Noteworthy too: a separate petition urging the province to stay in Canada drew 400,000 signatures.
This Sunday, 42 athletes will compete in eight events across four disciplines in Las Vegas. This isn't a World Athletics meet or any officially recognised competition. A record 274 people summited Mt via Nepal on Wednesday, the highest number to have reached the peak from the mountain's southern side. The previous record stood at 223 climbers, set on 22 May 2019. China had barred foreign climbers from using the northern route this season.
