Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to Indians to avoid buying for a year, prioritise work from home, and reduce petrol and diesel consumption by using public transport among other measures to cut energy usage and conserve foreign exchange. Made initially at a rally in Hyderabad, where the Prime Minister also asked Indians to avoid lavish international destination weddings and buy locally made products, this appeal was later posted on X by the government and framed as "Nation First". The opposition parties have slammed the appeal as evidence of the government's mismanagement of the finances and India's energy security.

India is a major global textile producer and is ranked as the 6th largest exporter globally. The flipside to this is that India is also the destination where nearly 1 million tonnes of textile waste makes its way, most of it discarded fast fashion clothing, and a bulk of it goes to in Haryana, where the processing of these discarded clothes has serious health and environmental repercussions for residents.

The TV boxes also garnered attention on social media and the pop star's fans named them after her.
